Land, Land, Land

An Overlooked Lucrative Alternative Asset Class

There are five major asset classes: 1) Equities 2) Bonds 3) Property 4) Commodities & 5) Cash. We often think about Property as single family houses or apartment buildings. However, vacant land is a significant investable asset that can be a very convenient store of wealth. In our current economic climate, most asset classes have become unattractive for the near future. Stocks are overvalued, Bonds will suffer as interest rates continue to rise, Housing is back to the overvalued condition of the 2008 financial crisis, Commodities are very volatile as investment vehicles and Cash will erode as inflation picks up. Like Gold, Land can be a great store of value in turbulent times. Land is a great way to diversify and is also a great inflation hedge.

Vacant land is often avoided because it is viewed as illiquid. However, if you choose wisely, there is a vibrant market of investors who are interested in land as an alternative investment.
